About the franchise

Item 20, Table No. 1, of Jiffy Lube's 2026 Franchise Disclosure Document (FDD), issued March 27, 2026, and amended July 1, 2026, counts 2,083 Jiffy Lube service centers in the USA at the end of 2025: 1,765 franchised and 318 company-owned. The total was 2,069 at the end of 2023 and 2,075 at the end of 2024. In 2025, 34 company-owned centers in four states were sold to franchisees, 4 were closed, and 2 were reacquired from franchisees (Table No. 4). Item 19 of the same FDD reports 2023, 2024, and 2025 sales and vehicle counts of franchised service centers that were open for the full year.

The franchisor, Jiffy Lube, LLC, is based in Houston, Texas, and has offered Jiffy Lube franchises since 1979. On June 30, 2026, Jiffy Lube International, Inc. converted into Jiffy Lube, LLC, and Bolt Purchaser, LLC agreed to acquire 100% of its equity from Pennzoil-Quaker State Company, its parent since 2002 and then a subsidiary of Shell USA, Inc.; as of that date, the company and the Jiffy Lube brand are no longer owned by Shell USA, Inc. The ultimate majority owner of Bolt's indirect parent, Bolt Newco Holdings, L.P., is an investment fund advised by Monomoy Capital Partners, a private equity firm in Greenwich, Connecticut, or one of its affiliates. Under a long-term lubricants supply agreement signed the same day, Jiffy Lube, LLC buys products from its former parent and sells them to its franchisees (FDD Item 1).

Included in the franchise

All the petroleum products a center needs, such as motor oil, transmission fluids, and greases, supplied by Jiffy Lube under the Pacesetter Franchise Agreement; much of a new center's initial inventory is bought from Jiffy Lube (FDD Items 5 and 7)
Participation in Jiffy Lube's national and regional fleet customer programs, which is required; fleet customers get a discount off your normal posted price for certain services, and the 2026 FDD lists processing charges of $1.25 per national fleet invoice Jiffy Lube bills and $0.95 per fleet invoice approved by the Auto Integrate program (FDD Items 6 and 8)
Training: Franchise Boot Camp in Houston, Texas, which you or the center's day-to-day decision makers must complete before opening; web-based courses for employees; and leadership training for managers, with tuition of $75 per student for virtual classes and $250 for in-person classes in the 2026 FDD. You pay attendees' salaries and expenses, and you and your managers must attend the operations training course for managers every five years (FDD Items 6 and 11)
A sublicense for the Jiffy Lube point-of-sale (POS) software for a new or converted service center, free of charge, with telephone support; you buy or lease the hardware to Jiffy Lube's specifications and pay the support fees listed in Item 6 (FDD Items 8 and 11)

Franchisee requirements

The How It Works page of Jiffy Lube's franchising site, franchise.jiffylube.com, says qualified candidates should have a minimum net worth of $500,000 and minimum liquidity of $250,000 ("net worth of $500k" and "minimum liquidity of $250k"; checked October 25, 2026); confirm these amounts with Jiffy Lube. The FDD sets no net worth or liquidity minimum.
A site of at least 0.37 acres for an oil-change-only service center (the smallest standard design has 2 bays), or at least 0.51 acres for a 4-bay Jiffy Lube Multicare service center (FDD Item 7)
Sign the Pacesetter Supply Agreement, also called the Product Supply Agreement, which commits you to buy 100% of bulk motor oil and 85% of non-bulk motor oil from Jiffy Lube, its successor or assignee, or another party Jiffy Lube designates (FDD Items 1 and 8)
Maintain and use enough supplies and equipment, and enough branded vehicles, to meet the standards Jiffy Lube sets (FDD Item 8)
To join the optional Jiffy Lube Multicare Program, which adds further automotive maintenance and repair services, sign the Jiffy Lube Multicare Franchise Agreement Addendum and employ a technician with A5 certification from the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) (FDD Item 1)

Franchise agreement

The Franchise Agreement runs for 20 years, or for the rest of the transferor's term if you take over a center from another franchisee, with one 10-year renewal. Renewal conditions include notice, renovating the center, no current defaults, no more than 2 cured defaults in the previous 5 years, payment of all monetary obligations, signing the then-current franchise agreement (whose terms may differ materially), a release of claims, and a renewal fee of $10,000, subject to adjustment using the Consumer Price Index (FDD Items 6 and 17).

A transfer needs Jiffy Lube's approval, which may not be unreasonably withheld; conditions include paying the transferor's debts, a release of claims, the buyer signing the then-current franchise agreement and meeting Jiffy Lube's criteria for new franchisees, and a transfer fee of $3,500 plus Jiffy Lube's actual expenses (none for a transfer to the family of a deceased or incapacitated franchisee or of a non-controlling interest). Jiffy Lube has 20 days after notice to exercise a right of first refusal (FDD Items 6 and 17).

You have 30 days after written notice to cure a monetary default and 30 days for most other defaults; defaults that cannot be cured include bankruptcy, failing to locate a site or open the center in time, repeated late payments, and false reports. When the agreement ends, any sums owed are paid immediately after a final accounting, and if the Product Supply Agreement is terminated, unpaid product purchases and any Funds still to be repaid become due within 30 days; Jiffy Lube may also require you to surrender the premises (FDD Item 17; Franchise Agreement, Sections 13.3.1 and 14.10; Product Supply Agreement, Section 22).

Frequently asked questions

The cover page of the 2026 FDD puts the initial investment for a new freestanding service center from $232,000, excluding real estate costs; the lowest amounts on the lines of the Item 7 table, leaving out the $17,500 Conversion Fee, come to the same $232,000, while the table's TOTAL EXPENDITURES row starts at $211,000. Both figures come from the low end of the table, where the initial franchise fee line starts at $0, because Jiffy Lube may waive the fee for honorably discharged U.S. military veterans; Item 5 sets the initial franchise fee for a new service center at $35,000. The table assumes a leased site and includes the first month's rent and a security deposit from $16,000; equipment, signs, and fixtures from $125,000; initial inventory from $20,000; opening marketing from $15,000; insurance from $10,000 a year; training expenses from $1,000, not counting wages; and $45,000 of additional funds for 6 months. It also lists Growth Funding paid to the franchisee, at most $77,350, and a NET TOTAL from $236,000. For a new site, Jiffy Lube offers no financing tailored to these expenses; Item 10 describes its funding programs as working capital loans from Jiffy Lube, LLC at 0% interest, repaid through purchases of products (FDD cover page and Items 5, 7, and 10).

For a new service center, the initial franchise fee is $35,000: $10,000 when you sign the Franchise Agreement and the $25,000 balance on the 15th day of the month after the month the center opens; neither amount is refundable. For a Converted Center, an auto service center that has offered lube services under another trademark for at least 12 months, the fee is $17,500, due at signing and not refundable. Jiffy Lube may waive the fee for honorably discharged U.S. military veterans, on their first Franchise Agreement only, and in some other cases Item 5 lists. A Build to Suit center also requires a security deposit equal to one month's rent, which Item 5 estimates from $8,000 (FDD Items 5 and 7).

The royalty is 4% of Gross Sales, or 3% if you pay it on or before the due date and are current in all your obligations to Jiffy Lube and its affiliates. It is due monthly on the 15th, based on the preceding month's Gross Sales. A center new to the Jiffy Lube system pays 0% for its first six months of operation; the first payment is due on the 15th day of the seventh month after the month the center opens. Jiffy Lube Multicare service centers pay 1% less on tire rubber revenue. The rate rises to 5% of Gross Sales, or 4% if paid on time, if the Pacesetter or Fast Lubes Supply Agreement is terminated and Attachment D to the Franchise Agreement has been executed (FDD Item 6).

You contribute 1.5% of Gross Sales a month to the National Advertising Fund, the highest rate Item 11 allows Jiffy Lube to set, and 2.5% a month to your local advertising cooperative by the 15th; if no cooperative has been formed, or you pay it less than 2.5%, the amount must be spent on local advertising. Your total advertising spending must reach 4% of Gross Sales a year, counting these contributions. For the point-of-sale (POS) system, the support charge may not exceed $192 a month per POS System installed unless Jiffy Lube's Technology Services Advisory Board approves an increase, and the 2026 FDD lists Hardware Support at $73.00 a month and a Cisco Meraki Enterprise License Fee of $18.00 per store a month; leasing POS-related equipment costs from $312 a month over 3 years, broadband from $40 per store a month, and the optional Data Delivery Service from $200 a month. Item 6 says its fees are non-refundable and that a fee without a cap may be increased without limit (FDD Items 6, 8, and 11).

You must open the service center within 12 months after you sign the Franchise Agreement unless an extension is granted; for a newly built site, Item 11 puts the earliest opening at about 180 days after signing. If you cannot find a site Jiffy Lube will approve in the time allowed, it can terminate the Franchise Agreement, and failing to locate a site or open the center in time is a default that cannot be cured. The first $10,000 of the initial franchise fee is not refundable, but if Jiffy Lube terminates the agreement before the $25,000 balance is due, you do not owe the balance. Under the Build to Suit program, if no other site is found within 60 days after the first proves unsuitable, the Franchise Agreement and sublease terminate and Jiffy Lube will return your initial franchise payment; if you decide not to develop the Preferred Site, you owe a $25,000 BTS Development Reimbursement (FDD Items 5, 6, 11, and 17).
