About the franchise

Item 20, Table No. 1, of Mathnasium's 2026 Franchise Disclosure Document (FDD), issued April 30, 2026, counts 1,047 Mathnasium Centers in the USA (Total U.S. Outlets) as of December 31, 2025: 1,043 franchised and 4 company-owned. The total was 972 at the end of 2023 and 999 at the end of 2024. Item 19 of the same FDD reports 2025 average and median annual Gross Receipts of franchised Mathnasium Centers, by quartile and by the number of Centers each franchisee owns, as well as 2025 average and median expenses and operating profit.

The franchisor, Mathnasium Franchisor LLC, is a Delaware limited liability company organized on July 11, 2024, and based in Los Angeles, California. It became the franchisor for Mathnasium Centers outside Canada after a secured financing transaction closed in August 2024 and has offered Mathnasium franchises since September 2024. Its predecessor and indirect parent, Mathnasium Center Licensing, LLC, offered them from late 2003 to August 2024 and now provides support and services to franchisees under a management agreement. In November 2021, an entity owned by the Atlanta-based private equity firm Roark Capital Management, LLC acquired a majority interest in the ultimate parent, Mathnasium Holdings, LLC (FDD Item 1).

Included in the franchise

Initial training for 1 or 2 people, covered by the initial franchise fee: online self-paced training, live virtual classes, and 3 full days in an operating Mathnasium Center in Los Angeles, California; you pay travel and lodging, each additional trainee costs $1,000, and ongoing or supplemental training currently has no fee (FDD Items 6, 7, and 11)
Electronic access to the Manuals, and use of Radius, Mathnasium's centralized computer system with point-of-sale functions, which the technology fee covers (FDD Items 6 and 11)
National, regional, or local marketing paid from Monthly Marketing Fees, and the Centralized Digital and Local Marketing Program, which buys digital media such as search, display, and social advertising with digital and local marketing fees (FDD Item 11)

Franchisee requirements

Mathnasium's Ideal Candidate page says its ideal candidate "typically meets" a "Minimum of $112,936" in liquidity and a "Minimum of $150,000 net worth"; confirm these amounts with Mathnasium. The FDD sets no minimum.
Find a space of 1,200 to 1,600 square feet that Mathnasium approves in writing before you sign a lease; your home or other residential property cannot be the Center, and Mathnasium must consent to its layout (FDD Item 7)
Have your Center Director, if an owner, and the owner who holds the most equity complete the initial training program within 180 days after signing; a Center Director who is not an owner must complete the Center Director Training program before opening, and you must complete at least 12 monthly Building Blocks webinars within 12 months after opening (FDD Item 11)
Act as or employ a Center Director who devotes his or her entire time during normal retail business hours to the Center, take part personally in managing the franchise, and keep at least 2 adults present whenever children are in the Center; if the franchisee is an entity, all of its owners must personally guarantee its obligations (FDD Item 15)
Buy the required insurance from the vendor Mathnasium designates: business liability, corporal punishment, and sexual/physical abuse and molestation coverage, each with a $1,000,000 minimum per occurrence, plus property and workers' compensation insurance; Item 7 estimates the required coverage from $1,500 a year for 100 enrolled students, not counting workers' compensation (FDD Items 7 and 8)

Franchise agreement

The initial term of the Franchise Agreement is 5 years. If you are in good standing, you can sign successor franchise agreements for additional 5-year terms: you must notify Mathnasium 90 to 180 days before the term expires, sign a general release, renovate and modernize the Center to Mathnasium's then-current image, and sign its then-current successor agreement, which may contain materially different terms, and Mathnasium must still be offering franchises in your territory. The renewal fee is $7,000, paid when you sign the successor agreement or, at your option, in 14 monthly installments of $500 (FDD Item 17).

A transfer needs Mathnasium's prior written approval, and Mathnasium can match offers in certain circumstances. To transfer the entire business, your Center must have been open for at least 6 months, and you pay a $7,000 transfer fee (none for a transfer to a company owned by all or a majority of your owners). The buyer pays a non-refundable $3,000 training fee, completes initial training, signs the then-current Franchise Agreement, and pays a $7,000 initial franchise fee, which Mathnasium may waive for an existing franchisee buying a Center with Gross Receipts of $176,306 or less in the previous 12 months (FDD Items 5, 6, and 17).

You have 10 days to cure a monetary default and 30 days to cure other curable defaults. If the Franchise Agreement is terminated, you must pay all amounts due, including the Base Royalty and the minimum monthly royalty for the remainder of the term unless Mathnasium waives them in writing, de-identify the Center, and repay customers for prepaid services (FDD Item 17; Franchise Agreement, Section 14.4).

Frequently asked questions

Item 7 of the 2026 FDD puts the total initial investment for a first Mathnasium Center from $127,316. Among other lines, that total includes the $49,000 initial franchise fee; travel to initial training for 1 person, from $2,500; the first and last month's rent, from $6,000; paint, carpet, and minimal tenant improvements, from $8,000; furniture, signs, equipment, and supplies, from $17,000; $5,500 of pre-opening advertising; and additional funds for the first 4 months after opening, from $35,000, which include payroll for 1 employee but not any pay for yourself or any royalties. For an additional Center, the total starts from $104,816; only the initial franchise fee differs. Mathnasium does not finance a first Center unless you are a Center Director at a Mathnasium Center who meets its eligibility requirements; for such a Center Director or an additional Center, it may finance $15,000 of the $26,500 initial franchise fee over 20 months at 10% simple interest per year (FDD Items 7 and 10).

The initial franchise fee is $49,000 for your first franchise, paid in full when you sign the Franchise Agreement; before that, you must submit to a background check that includes a criminal and civil record search and a credit check. The monthly technology fee is due from the first full month after signing, and the monthly digital and local marketing fee from 2 months before your anticipated opening date; the FDD expects $2,000 of the latter before opening, and Mathnasium reduces the $5,500 you must spend on local advertising in the 2 months before opening by the amount you pay. The initial franchise fee is $26,500 for an additional franchise or for a Center Director at a Mathnasium Center who meets the eligibility requirements. The $49,000 fee for a first Center is reduced by 25% for qualifying veterans and active-duty members of the U.S. Armed Forces, and the initial franchise fee is reduced by 25% for qualifying educators (FDD Items 5 and 7).

You pay two royalties at the same time, currently due monthly on the 10th day of the following month by electronic funds transfer. The Monthly Royalty is 10% of your monthly Gross Receipts from all sources; beginning in a Center's 24th month of operation, it is the greater of 10% or $1,500. The Base Royalty is $650 a month: franchisees currently pay a single Base Royalty for all the Centers they and their Qualified Affiliates (entities with the same controlling owner) operate, plus $650 a month after each Base Royalty Acquisition, that is, a purchase of Centers that brought in more than 50% of the selling franchisee's Gross Receipts in the previous 12 months. For a first Center, Base Royalty payments begin 6 months after you sign the Franchise Agreement. Each year, Mathnasium can raise fixed-dollar fees, including the Base Royalty and the $1,500 minimum, by the greater of 3% or the increase in the Consumer Price Index (CPI); the 10% rate is not adjusted. The FDD warns that you must make royalty payments regardless of your sales levels (FDD Items 6 and 7; Special Risks).

The Monthly Marketing Fee is $250 plus 2% of your monthly Gross Receipts. The digital and local marketing fee is a minimum of $1,000 a month and funds the Centralized Digital and Local Marketing Program; it counts toward your local advertising requirement of at least $6,000 in every 3 consecutive months after opening. The Technology License Fee is currently $266 a month for each Center, covers Radius, and is subject to increase to cover Mathnasium's technology-related costs. The Annual Convention Fee is currently $550 per attendee, generally payable in May; attendance is required, and the fee is not refundable if you cannot attend. Mathnasium may also withdraw a maximum of $500 a month for area marketing ($1,000 if 70% or more of the area's franchisees vote for it), and you must contribute to an advertising cooperative if your Center is in its area; both count toward your local advertising requirement (FDD Items 6 and 11).

You must start Center operations within 6 months after you sign the Franchise Agreement; if you have not, Mathnasium may terminate the agreement, and the FDD lists failing to begin operating by the required opening date among the defaults that cannot be cured. Mathnasium accepts or rejects a proposed site only after you complete specified sections of initial training, and if you and Mathnasium cannot agree on any site, the Franchise Agreement may be canceled at no liability to Mathnasium. None of the Item 7 expenditures, including the initial franchise fee, are refundable; the one exception is if Mathnasium terminates the Franchise Agreement during or at the end of initial training, in which case it refunds the initial franchise fee less its costs of marketing, awarding, and processing your franchise and of training you (FDD Items 5, 7, 11, and 17).
